Sermorelin works. It releases GH from your pituitary, it is gentle, and it has a long track record in pediatric medicine. CJC-1295 does the same job with better stability, and the community moved on for good reason. If your clinic carries sermorelin it will do the work, but given the choice, run CJC-1295 instead.

Would I take it?Only if CJC-1295 isn't available.

What it is

The first GHRH analog, a 29-amino-acid version of the signal your hypothalamus sends to your pituitary to release growth hormone. Sermorelin is a growth-hormone secretagogue in the broadest sense: it makes your body produce its own GH rather than injecting the hormone directly. It was FDA-approved for diagnosing GH deficiency and briefly for treating growth-deficient children, though the pediatric treatment indication was later withdrawn.

In the peptide world sermorelin is the older sibling. CJC-1295 took its place because CJC-1295’s amino acid modifications resist the enzyme that chews up natural GHRH in minutes, giving it a longer active window and a less demanding dosing schedule. Same mechanism, better stability, less human data. You pair either one with a GHRP like ipamorelin for the full GH-axis push. Sermorelin still shows up in clinic protocols, especially from telemedicine providers, because it has the regulatory history. If that is how you are getting it, it is fine. It is just not the first choice when both are on the table.

What the research shows

The clinical history is real but the evidence for the way people actually use sermorelin today is not. The studies are mostly pediatric, diagnostic, or combination protocols, with only a small healthy-adult infusion study from 1986:

Once-daily subcutaneous sermorelin at 30 mcg/kg at bedtime produced height velocity increases in GH-deficient children. In a separate comparison using infusion or divided doses, the gains were smaller than with somatropin.BioDrugs 1999 · review
A 10-hour GRF 1-29 infusion in four healthy men produced GH pulses up to 80 mU/L throughout. The oldest adult data on the molecule.Clin Endocrinol 1986 · healthy men · n=4
A combination of sermorelin, GHRP-2, and GHRP-6 at 100 mcg each, three times daily, raised IGF-1 from 159.5 to 239.0 ng/mL over about four months. Impossible to isolate what sermorelin contributed.AJMH 2017 · retrospective · n=14

Realistic protocols

If you are running sermorelin, the protocol mirrors CJC-1295’s logic: subcutaneous, empty stomach, pre-bed to ride the natural overnight GH window. The difference is that sermorelin breaks down faster, so you need more frequent shots for the same coverage. Most people run it two to three times daily, and the pre-bed dose is the one to keep if you drop to once a day. Two to three pins a day is the biggest practical objection, and it is fair. That injection burden, more than anything else, is why CJC-1295 took over.

Pair it with ipamorelin or another GHRP. Sermorelin alone will nudge GH, but the GHRH-plus-GHRP pairing is what produces a proper pulse. If you compete in a WADA-tested sport, sermorelin and all GHRH analogs are prohibited. The same reconstitution and storage rules apply as any peptide: bacteriostatic water, refrigerate, use within a few weeks.

Standard dose200–300 mcgSub-q, empty stomach. Higher than CJC-1295 because sermorelin clears faster.
Frequency2–3x dailyPre-bed is the anchor. Add morning and pre-workout for full coverage.
TimingPre-bed anchorRide the natural overnight GH surge. Add AM or pre-workout as needed.

Side effects

The gentlest side profile in the GHRH class, which is already a gentle class:

commonFacial flushing right after the shot, brief and harmless. The most-reported effect in the pediatric literature.
commonInjection-site pain and irritation, the usual peptide story.
monitorThe same GH-axis glucose and insulin concerns apply here, though the signal is smaller at typical doses than with HGH or MK-677.
unknownNo modern long-term adult safety study exists. The pediatric history is reassuring, but it is a different population at different doses for a different purpose.
