Ipamorelin vs Sermorelin
9 sources
These are two halves of one stack, not rivals: sermorelin is a GHRH analog, ipamorelin the ghrelin-side trigger, and a clinic may well prescribe them together. If you are picking one, pick ipamorelin, because it fires a clean pulse on its own. For the GHRH half, I’d take CJC-1295 over sermorelin: sermorelin clears faster and wants more pins for the same job. If sermorelin is what your clinic carries, pair it with ipamorelin and it does the work.
How they differ
The biggest practical difference is pins. Sermorelin breaks down fast, so it wants two or three shots a day to cover what ipamorelin, or CJC-1295, covers with a nightly one. People left sermorelin over the pin count, not over what it does. In the gym crowd it now mostly arrives on a clinic or telemedicine script; people sourcing their own run CJC-1295 in its place.
Underneath, they pull different levers. Sermorelin is the first GHRH analog, a copy of the release signal your hypothalamus sends. Ipamorelin is a secretagogue on the ghrelin side, meaning it tells your pituitary to fire a pulse of your own GH right now. Alone, sermorelin nudges GH and ipamorelin fires a pulse. Paired, they hit both locks at once, which is why a telemedicine prescription often arrives as both.
Sleep is why a lot of people ask. Both are run pre-bed, both ride the overnight GH surge, and deeper sleep is the most common firsthand report on either. Nobody has measured it on either one. Muscle is the same story on both: GH-axis peptides help recovery, and training and food still do the building.
What the research shows
No trial compares them, and neither has a modern adult trial for what people run them for. What exists comes from different studies in different people:
That last one is why ipamorelin, not the older GHRPs in that 2017 combination, is the partner I’d hand sermorelin.
How people run them
Both get the same treatment: sub-q, empty stomach, pre-bed as the anchor. What differs is how often. Sermorelin runs two to three times daily because it clears fast; ipamorelin runs once to three times, and once a night is a real protocol on it. Paired, draw both into one syringe for the pre-bed shot, and for the morning shot if you run one. If you drop to a single shot a day, keep the pre-bed one on either.
Keep about two hours between your last meal and the shot, because food blunts the pulse on both. On sermorelin that rule bites harder, since every extra shot needs its own empty-stomach window, and three a day means planning your meals around them.
Switching sermorelin out for CJC-1295, do it the same night: 100 mcg of no-DAC CJC-1295 goes into the syringe in sermorelin’s place, ipamorelin stays as it was, and your pins can drop to one a day. No washout; both clear in hours. If you compete in a tested sport, both are prohibited.
Side effects, side by side
Both gentle; the raised-GH signs are shared, the first-minute ones differ a little:
