Skip it. SR-9009 was sold as an exercise mimetic, but the two things that mattered most have both come apart. Oral absorption is so poor that what people swallow is unlikely to reach meaningful blood levels, and a clean 2019 study showed SR-9009 works in cells with both REV-ERB receptors knocked out, meaning the mechanism it was marketed for may not be the mechanism at all. No human trial exists. If you want pharmacological help with a cut, retatrutide or tirzepatide live on a different planet of evidence.

Would I take it?Skip. Barely absorbs, mechanism in question.

What it is

A research chemical designed to activate the REV-ERB nuclear receptors, a pair of proteins that help run your circadian clock and, in rodent models, influence fat storage, cholesterol metabolism, and inflammation. The early rodent data launched an entire supplement category. SR-9011 is its close structural sibling from the same lab. If you want real weight-loss pharmacology, retatrutide or tirzepatide are where the human evidence lives.

Two problems gutted the pitch. First, SR-9009 barely survives the gut. Almost nothing you swallow reaches the bloodstream, which means the oral doses people run are arriving at levels that probably do nothing. Second, a 2019 PNAS study tested SR-9009 in cells engineered to lack both REV-ERB alpha and REV-ERB beta and found SR-9009 still killed cells, still rewired metabolism, and still altered gene transcription. If the effects persist without the target, the target is not the explanation.

What the research shows

No human trials. Zero. Everything below is animal or in-vitro work. Read it as “interesting,” not “evidence it works in you.”

All cell and animal work, some of it actively undermining the mechanism story. No human trial of any kind.

Realistic protocols

The forum protocol is 20 to 30 mg by mouth, split into two or three doses because of the short action, cycled a few weeks on and off. Almost none of that dose is reaching the bloodstream. Some people try sublingual or injectable preparations to get around the gut, but at that point you are engineering workarounds for a compound that may not even work through the receptor you think it does, with zero human safety data to guide you. If you insist: source with a COA, keep runs short, and log everything.

Side effects

No human safety data exists. The side-effect profile is borrowed from forum reports and animal work:

anecdotalInsomnia and restlessness when dosed in the evening, consistent with a circadian-active compound.
anecdotalMild GI discomfort at higher oral doses.
unknownSR-9009 does things to cells that REV-ERB does not explain. Until someone identifies the actual mechanism of action, you do not know what you are modulating.
