PTD-DBM
guinea pig3 sources
An interesting bet on top of finasteride and minoxidil, not a replacement for either. PTD-DBM releases the CXXC5 brake on follicle growth, the same target as KY-19382, and it regrew hair in mice, including hair loss driven by prostaglandin D2, a step on the DHT pathway. Nothing has been tested in a human scalp. Between the two, KY-19382 is the easier one to run; PTD-DBM is the one people pair with microneedling.
What it is
A short engineered peptide with two parts. The PTD half is a protein transduction domain, a carrier sequence that drags the peptide through cell membranes. The DBM half is a decoy that occupies the spot where CXXC5 would grab a protein called Dishevelled. CXXC5 is the brake on Wnt/beta-catenin, the signal that keeps follicles growing, and in balding scalp that brake is turned up. Block the grab and the growth signal stays on.
It comes from the same Korean lab as KY-19382, which hits the same target as a small molecule. The peptide came first and has the better mechanism story, including the link back to DHT, the hormone finasteride cuts. The small molecule is cheaper, more stable, and easier to dissolve into a scalp solution. Neither has a human trial; SM04554 is the Wnt-pathway topical that actually reached one.
What the research shows
One human element: biopsies of balding scalp. Everything PTD-DBM did as a treatment, it did in mice.
Realistic protocols
No human dose exists, and I’m not reverse-engineering one from mouse skin. The shape people run: reconstitute the peptide, mix it into a light topical base, and apply it to the thinning area once a day, usually right after a microneedling session on the days they needle, betting on the wound-to-new-follicle effect from the mouse work. Some add valproic acid on the strength of the wound papers. Concentrations vary by whoever wrote the guide. Treat any number you see as a guess. If you run it anyway: keep finasteride and minoxidil as the base and don’t let PTD-DBM displace either one. Keep the mixed solution in the fridge and make small batches, because a peptide in solution breaks down and a degraded peptide is just expensive water. Buy only with a third-party COA, since a peptide this niche is easy to fake. Needling opens your skin to whatever is in the bottle, so needle clean and skip the needle entirely if your scalp is irritated. Photos monthly, same light, and a four to six month verdict.
