Halotestin does one thing and does it violently: raw strength and aggression, right now, for the day you need it. It does not build muscle, it does not belong in a cycle for size, and it will punish your liver harder than almost anything else on this shelf. Powerlifters use it before a meet, fighters before a bout, and everyone else should leave it alone. If strength is the goal, anavar delivers it with a fraction of the liver cost, though not zero.

Would I take it?Caution, a specialist's drug for a specialist's day.

What it is

A 17-alpha-alkylated oral, meaning every milligram passes through the liver in a form that stresses it hard. Enormously androgenic and barely anabolic in practice. It does not aromatize, does not cause water retention, and does not build appreciable muscle tissue. What it does is spike strength and aggression for a few hours after you take it. That profile makes it a performance drug for a single session, not a cycle compound for growth.

Among the orals it sits at the extreme end. Where dianabol is the classic mass oral and anadrol is the brute-force size oral, halotestin is the one nobody runs for physique. Think of it as a pre-workout with steroid-grade liver toxicity: useful on meet day, punishing to run any longer.

What the research shows

There are no human trials studying halotestin for strength or performance. The published evidence is breast cancer treatment from the 1980s through 2000, plus drug-detection pharmacokinetics. What those studies confirm is that halotestin is pharmacologically active at the doses people actually use:

In 33 women with stage IV breast cancer, fluoxymesterone at 10 mg twice daily produced 13 objective remissions, a 39% response rate, lasting an average of more than 11 months.Cancer 1981 · breast cancer · n=33
After a single 10 mg oral dose in men, parent fluoxymesterone cleared urine within a day, but metabolites remained detectable for at least five days.Clin Chem 1990 · human PK

Realistic protocols

This is not something you cycle in the traditional sense. Most people who touch halotestin use it one of two ways: a single dose on competition day for the aggression and strength spike, or a short two- to four-week run heading into a meet. Either way, it sits on top of a testosterone base, never alone, because it does nothing for recovery or well-being on its own. Like every steroid on this shelf, it shuts down your own production. Plan the PCT before you start.

The dose is low. 10 mg is enough for most people to feel the aggression shift, and 20 mg is where most experienced users cap it. Going above 30 mg adds liver strain faster than it adds strength, and people who push to 40 mg almost universally describe it as not worth the trade. Take it an hour or two before training or competition, on a full stomach. If you compete in a tested federation, a single 10 mg dose leaves detectable metabolites in urine for at least five days.

If you run it for a block rather than a single day, keep it short and keep liver support aggressive: TUDCA, NAC, no alcohol, and bloodwork covering liver enzymes, lipids, and hematocrit before and after. This is one of the most hepatotoxic orals on the shelf, and the liver stress is not theoretical.

Single day10–20 mgOne dose, 1–2 hours pre-competition. The most common use.
Short block10–20 mg/day2–4 weeks into a meet. Liver support mandatory.
Hard ceiling30–40 mg/dayDiminishing returns, escalating liver cost. Rarely worth it.

Side effects

The strength comes with a bill, and the liver pays most of it:

commonAggression and mood shifts within hours of dosing. That is the reason to take halotestin, but it does not switch off when the lift is over. Plan so the hours after dosing are not spent driving or around people the temper will cost you.
monitorSevere hepatotoxicity. Liver enzymes spike fast, even on short runs. Bloodwork before and after any use, no exceptions.
monitorBlood pressure elevation and headaches, dose-related. The cardiovascular strain is real even for a short run.
monitorLipid disruption, particularly HDL suppression. Standard for a 17-alpha-alkylated oral. A short run limits the damage but does not erase it.
commonAppetite suppression and lethargy at higher doses. The body telling you it is under stress.
