Ipamorelin vs MK-677
11 sources
Ipamorelin, for most people and on every cut. Both hit the same ghrelin receptor, but ipamorelin fires a clean GH pulse and leaves your appetite mostly alone, while MK-677 brings serious hunger, water, and a glucose hit along with its GH. MK-677 wins on two things: it is a pill, and it has real human trials. If needles are a dealbreaker and you are bulking or chasing sleep, run MK-677 with glucose checks. Never run both.
How they differ
The difference that matters is what comes along with the GH. Each is a secretagogue working the ghrelin receptor, the hunger hormone’s switch, meaning it tells your pituitary to release your own GH. On MK-677 that switch also means hunger that hits like a wall for weeks, pounds of water early, and fasting glucose that climbs and does not fully settle. Ipamorelin flips the same switch selectively: a GH pulse with little of the hunger and none of the cortisol the older GHRPs drag along. One is a bulking tool. The other fits a cut.
The rhythm is the other split. MK-677 is a capsule at bedtime that keeps GH and IGF-1 raised around the clock. Ipamorelin is a pin, nightly at minimum, that fires a pulse and clears. The capsule wins on convenience and on how steadily it lifts IGF-1; the pulse wins on everything a constant elevation costs you, which is glucose, water, and appetite.
Most Reddit threads on this pair are really asking about MK-677 against ipamorelin with CJC-1295. Same answer, by a wider margin: the stack adds the GHRH half and more GH with none of the hunger, and MK-677 keeps only the no-needles advantage.
What the research shows
No trial has run them against each other, and the evidence is lopsided: MK-677 has years of randomized trials, ipamorelin has mechanism. Different studies, different people:
MK-677’s receipts are real, and they say the axis responds, glucose pays for it, and the lean mass does not turn into strength. Ipamorelin’s say it is clean, and nothing yet about outcomes.
How people run them
MK-677 starts at 10 to 15 mg before bed, so you sleep through the worst of the appetite surge; 25 mg is the trial dose and a ceiling, not a target. The first two to four weeks are the hungriest, and the scale jumps in week one with water, not tissue, so judge by the mirror and the tape. Check fasting glucose before you start and every few weeks after.
Ipamorelin is 200–300 mcg sub-q before bed on an empty stomach, ideally in one syringe with CJC-1295. The empty-stomach window, about two hours after your last meal, is the routine change it asks for; MK-677 asks you to manage your eating instead.
Switching from MK-677 to ipamorelin, stop the capsule and take the first pin the same night; the hunger and water ease over the following days as MK-677 clears. Going the other way, start MK-677 at 10 mg even after months on ipamorelin, because the receptor is familiar but the appetite and water are not. Do not stack them. Same receptor, so the second one adds hunger and glucose, not much GH. If ipamorelin alone is not enough, add CJC-1295, the other half of the axis.
Side effects, side by side
Same receptor, very different bill. MK-677 carries the hunger and the glucose:
