MK-677 vs HGH
9 sources
HGH, if the goal is body composition and the budget allows. It takes fat off without making you ravenous, and MK-677 can claim neither. MK-677 earns its place on a bulk or for deeper sleep, where the hunger works for you, as long as you watch your fasting glucose. If you have never touched the GH axis, neither one is step one: the CJC-1295 and ipamorelin stack is.
How they differ
The difference that matters is hunger. MK-677 works the ghrelin receptor, the body’s hunger switch, so its GH pulse arrives with an appetite that hits like a wall for the first few weeks and never fully leaves. HGH is the hormone itself, so you get the GH without touching the switch, and fat loss is its most reliable effect. That decides the goal split. On a cut, HGH helps and MK-677 fights you every meal. On a lean bulk, MK-677’s appetite, the deeper sleep, and the GH all pull the same way, and that is the one job where it beats paying for HGH.
The second difference is your own axis. MK-677 is a growth-hormone secretagogue, meaning it tells your pituitary to release more of your own GH, so your production stays in the loop. HGH adds GH from outside, and your pituitary dials its own output down for as long as you run it. That suppression is what you pay for HGH’s reliability.
Day to day they feel different. MK-677 is a pill before bed, so you sleep through the worst of the hunger. HGH is a morning sub-q pin, every day. Both puff you up with water early and both push blood sugar up, so on either one the scale lies for the first weeks. Judge by the mirror and the tape. If hunger is the dealbreaker but you want to keep your own GH in charge, ipamorelin hits the same receptor without the appetite, and stacked with CJC-1295 it is where I would start anyone new to the GH axis.
What the research shows
Nobody has run MK-677 against HGH, so these are different trials in different people, read side by side, not a race:
My read across the two programs: HGH moves fat and leaves the scale alone, MK-677 adds weight and leaves the fat where it was.
How people run them
The rhythm is the first thing you notice. MK-677 starts at 10 to 15 mg before bed, and most people hold there; 25 mg is the trial dose, not a goal. HGH starts at 1 to 2 IU each morning on an empty stomach, and most people land at 2 to 4 IU for body composition. If sleep is the only reason you want MK-677, stay at the low end and judge it by your nights; the sleep trial used 25 mg, but the hunger shrinks with the dose. Give either one months, not weeks.
Switching from MK-677 to HGH, take your last MK-677 dose at night and your first HGH pin the next morning. No washout. Start HGH low, because the water you carried on MK-677 takes a week or two to drain and HGH’s water arrives on top. Going back from HGH to MK-677, usually when the cost stops making sense, swap the same way, expect the hunger to land fresh, and give your pituitary a few weeks to come back up before you judge the result.
Plenty of people on a bulk run MK-677 at night on top of HGH. I wouldn’t. That is two glucose hits at once, and MK-677 adds hunger and water to a plan that already has HGH’s water. Pick the one that fits the goal.
Side effects, side by side
Both swell you and both cost you insulin sensitivity; MK-677 adds the hunger, HGH adds the hands and joints:
